Morales' extra-inning RBI leads Angels over Indians

Baseball Betting Lines

09/08/2007 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kendry Morales' run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the LA Angels of Anaheim over Cleveland, 3-2, in a battle of division leaders at Angel Stadium.

Chone Figgins led off the frame by slicing a Rafael Betancourt (4-1) pitch to right for a double and moved to third on Orlando Cabrera's sharply hit fly ball to right. Betancourt then issued an intentional pass to the red-hot Garret Anderson in order to face Morales, who was 0-for-4 on the night. The designated hitter came through and lined a 1-2 breaking ball down the right field line for the game-winner.

Anderson drove in a run for a franchise-record 12th consecutive game while Figgins was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Angels, who have won four of their last five games and increased their comfortable lead atop the AL West to nine games over reeling Seattle.

John Lackey allowed just one run on six hits in seven innings for LA but failed to win his 17th game of the year when star closer Francisco Rodriguez blew a one-run lead in the ninth.

Scot Shields (4-5) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Ryan Garko homered for the Indians, who still lead Detroit in the AL Central by five games. Grady Sizemore added a run-scoring single.

Jake Westbrook started on the hill for Cleveland and pitched well. The right- hander surrendered just two runs on five hits in 7 2/3 innings of work.

The Angels took the early lead with a run in the first. Figgins doubled to left, moved to third on a Cabrera ground ball and scored on Anderson's single up the middle.

The Indians evened things in the fifth. Chris Gomez slapped a one-out double and Sizemore chased him across the plate with a run-scoring single.

LA rebounded to take back the lead in the sixth when Figgins singled and scored on Cabrera's two-bagger.

The Tribe looked dead in the water as they entered the ninth facing one of the game's top closers in Rodriguez, but Garko took a fastball the opposite way over the wall in right-center to tie things at two.

Game Notes

Morales extended his hitting streak to 12 games with the game-winning hit...The Angels played without star outfielder Vladimir Guerrero, who is out with an inflamed right triceps. Guerrero, who leads the Angels with 22 home runs, 110 RBI and a .326 batting average, is day-to-day.
